Điều kiện tham dự của giải thưởng này là phải được phát hành trước 24/11/2015, cho nên những sản phẩm lớn của tháng 12 như Just Cause 3 và Rainbow Six Siege không nằm trong danh sách này.

Giải thưởng này cũng bao gồm 3 hạng mục cho eSports. Các ứng cử viên sẽ được lựa chọn độc lập bởi một ban cố vấn gồm 10 người. Sau đó chia về 3 hạng mục chính là Giải sáng tạo xuất sắc nhất của Fan, Game thủ tạo xu hướng tốt nhất và Game được mong đợi nhất. Tất cả đều do các fan thực hiện vote.

The Game Awards 2015 sẽ được tường thuật trực tiếp trên nhiều kênh truyền thông vào 9h tối (giờ ET), thứ 3, 03/12 tại nhà hát Microsoft (trước đây là nhà hát Nokia, LA) trong trung tâm Los Angeles. Nó sẽ được live-stream trên nhiều website như Twitch, Youtube, Steam, PS Network, WiiU, Xlive, Go90.
